A 28 year old man has been arrested after he crashed his car at high speed after failing to stop for police in Christchurch.

Senior Sergeant Stephen McDaniel said “at around 1am a vehicle was observed driving in a dangerous manner near the intersection of Matipo Street and Blenheim Road, Riccarton.

“Police signalled for the vehicle to stop, but the driver continued to travel at high-speed before crashing on Moorhouse Avenue moments later.”

The driver fled from the crashed vehicle on foot before being arrested by police a short time later.

The driver, a 28-year-old man, has been charged with reckless driving and will appear in court on a later date.”

A St John spokeswoman said they were notified of the incident but were stood down and not required.
