A 45 year old man has been charged after a pedestrian was struck by a car on Kilmore Street in Christchurch early this morning.
Emergency services were called to Kilmore Street about 1.05am after a pedestrian was hit by a vehicle. police said the driver left the scene immediately after the collision.
The pedestrian suffered critical injuries and was taken to hospital, where he remained in a stable condition.
police said the driver later contacted officers and was taken into custody at a Merivale address. The vehicle was impounded.
The man has been charged with dangerous driving causing injury, failing to stop and ascertain injury, possession of cocaine, and possession of methamphetamine.
He was remanded in custody and is due to appear in the Christchurch District Court on 25 May.
