Man arrested in North New Brighton after failing to stop for police

A man is in custody after failing to stop for police in the Christchurch suburb of Linwood.

A police spokesman said police attempted to stop a vehicle in Linwood at around 4.50pm.

However, he said “the driver fled from police and staff did not pursue the person.”

The vehicle was successfully spiked near Bower Road and Beach Road at 5.30pm and the driver was arrested soon after.

A 30-year-old man will appear in the Christchurch District Court on Monday charged with driving while disqualified, possessing utensils for the use of methamphetamine, failing to stop for Police, reckless driving and possessing an offensive weapon.
