A 59 year old man has been arrested following a fire in Linwood.

Three Fire and Emergency crews were called to Worcester Street just after 5AM.

A fence and tyres were on fire at a property.

The man was arrested at the scene and was due to appear in court on Monday, charged with unlawfully being in a building and arson.

Detective Sergeant Luke Vaughan said police remain at the scene, alongside Fire and Emergency NZ, while a thorough scene examination is conducted.

“If anyone saw anything unusual or suspicious this morning around the time of the fire, who has not yet spoken to Police, please get in touch via 105, referencing file number 260103/3422.”
