A house was destroyed by fire in Shirley overnight.

A Fire and Emergency spokesman told chrislynchmedia.com crews were called to the Emmett Street property at 11.30PM. Two crews from Christchurch City Station responded.

He said the house was already well ablaze when firefighters arrived and was extensively damaged. Police were also called to the scene.

All occupants were accounted for, and a fire investigator is expected at the property this morning.
