The Green Party has corrected an error in its tax policy after figures put its package out by $826 million.

The mistake involved extra funding for Inland Revenue being listed as revenue, rather than a cost.

The party later uploaded a corrected version of the policy document and described the mistake as a typo.

Green Party co-leader Chlöe Swarbrick acknowledged the error on RNZ.

“There was a typo, which you’ve rightfully pointed out, with net revenue figures,” Swarbrick said.

The Greens budgeted extra money for Inland Revenue to help administer and enforce the proposed tax changes.

That funding was costed at $100 million in 2027 and 2028, $102 million in 2028 and 2029, $104 million in 2029 and 2030, and $106 million in 2030 and 2031.

However, the original policy document incorrectly counted that funding as revenue, rather than an expense.
