Four men face charges after reports of gunfire in Avonside, with police later finding two shotguns in a vehicle stopped on Kerrs Road.

Detective Sergeant Lucy Aldridge said police were called to Dunarnan Street about 12.30am after receiving reports of a firearm allegedly being discharged and vehicles leaving at speed.

Officers later saw a vehicle of interest on Kerrs Road and signalled it to stop. The three occupants were taken into custody without incident.

A search of the vehicle found two long barrelled shotguns.

A 25 year old man was charged with reckless discharge of a firearm.

A 22 year old man was charged with three counts of unlawful possession of a firearm or ammunition and one count of failing to carry out obligations relating to a computer search.

A 28 year old man faced three charges of unlawful possession of a firearm or ammunition.

A 30 year old man was charged with four counts of unlawful possession of a firearm or ammunition, possession of a cannabis plant and failing to comply with conditions of a protection order.

Aldridge said officers were continuing inquiries to identify and locate other vehicles or people involved.

Aldridge said reassurance patrols would be carried out in the area because incidents of this nature could be distressing for residents.
