A person has been injured in a fire at a motel in Christchurch.

Fire and Emergency crews were called to the Diplomat Motel on Papanui Road at 5PM.

A spokesman said when crews arrived, one motel room was well ablaze.

The fire was put out by 5.18PM.

There was no obvious cause of the fire the spokesman said.

A patient was taken to Christchurch Hospital by St John ambulance.

Papanui Road, northbound, was blocked off while emergency crews attended to the blaze.

A Fire and Emergency investigator has been called to the scene.
