Early morning quake wakes up Christchurch

Thousands of Christchurch residents have reported feeling the 3.8 quake this morning.

It struck 6.25AM, at a depth of 7 kilometres.

It was centred 10 kilometres south-east of Christchurch.

People on social media said the shake felt stronger than 3.8, but that is because it was shallow.

5840 residents reported the shake on Geonet.

121 residents reported the shake as being “strong.”

A second shake happened at 6:55 AM. It was a magnitude: 2.8, at a depth: of 11 km, 10 km south-east of Christchurch.
