A driver has been arrested after fleeing the scene of a crash in Avondale.

Police were called to a single vehicle crash at 7AM, where a car had ploughed into a fence at the corner of New Brighton Road and Bassett Street.

A police spokesperson said the vehicle suffered damage after mounting the roundabout and crashing into a fence.

The driver left the scene on foot and was taken into custody a short time later after being found on Travis Road.

Enquiries are continuing, the police spokesman said.
