Police have confirmed one person has died after their car flipped on the Christchurch-Akaroa Road last night.

The accident happened at 9.30PM.

A police spokeswoman says the crash happened at the intersection of State Highway 75 and Graylees Road.

The person was initially reported as having serious injuries.

One lane was closed while the Serious Crash Unit investigated.
