A person is fighting for their life after a serious crash on Bealey Road in Hororata this morning.

Emergency services were called to the scene between Derretts Road and Plantation Road around 7.50am, after a vehicle struck a power pole.

A person sustained critical injuries in the crash.

A police spokesperson said the Serious Crash Unit had been advised and was on its way to the scene.

“The road is expected to remain closed for some time while emergency services work at the scene,” the spokesperson said.

“Motorists are advised to avoid the area and expect delays.”

Inquiries into the cause of the crash are ongoing.
