Crash at rail crossing near Selwyn Lake Road

State Highway 1 Main South Road has been closed near Selwyn Lake Road following a single vehicle crash about 7.30pm.

A police spokeswoman said the crash involved a signal box at the train tracks and the barrier arms were stuck in the down position, blocking the road.

There were no reports of injuries.

The road was expected to remain closed for some time.

Police asked motorists to avoid the area or expect delays.

A Kiwi Rail spokesman said “earlier this evening, at the request of the police, KiwiRail closed the Main South Line following a road traffic incident at a level crossing near Dunsandel.

No trains were involved in the incident.
