Colombo Street in Sydenham has been blocked off tonight as fire crews deal with a fire at a block of shops.

A Fire and Emergency spokesman told Chris Lynch they were called to a small cluster of shops on Colombo Street between Beaumont and Angus Street, opposite South Hampton Street.

He said there are about five shops in the complex, including a dairy and a take-away shop.

When firefighters arrived the roof was well involved.
Two appliances were called, along with another two for back-up.
One fire appliance has been stood down, but Colombo Street has been blocked off to both lanes.
An eye witness at the scene said the fire was seen coming from the roof from of the Mediterranean Kitchen.
There’s no word on the cause of the fire.
