Christchurch residents are able to share warmth with those struggling this winter at the Winter Blanket Collection in Cathedral Square.
From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m this Friday July 4th, a Christchurch Tram will serve as a donation hub, where locals are invited to contribute new blankets, duvets, or comforters.
Organised by the Salvation Army and Christchurch Attractions, the initiative aims to support individuals facing harsh winter conditions without adequate bedding.
With falling overnight temperatures and increasing demand for support, the need for donations is significant.
Marty Byrne, CEO of Christchurch Attractions, noted that while winters in the region are scenic, they can be harsh for some, and a new blanket can provide comfort and relief.
Donors will receive a complimentary adult tram ticket, valued at $40, with up to three children able to ride free, offering a family-friendly incentive for contributions.
Organisers request that all donated items be new due to the high cost of cleaning used bedding. Last year’s event saw numerous donations and community engagement, and organisers aim to surpass that response this year.
The public is invited to participate by bringing new blankets to Cathedral Square and contributing to the effort to support those in need during the winter season.
