Christchurch travellers have been given a new direct link to Western Australia, with Jetstar confirming it will launch a nonstop service to Perth from October 2026.

The new international route will operate three times a week from 27 October 2026 until 27 March 2027, offering more than 30,000 low fare seats a year between Christchurch and Perth.

The seasonal trans Tasman service will be flown on Jetstar’s Perth based Airbus A321LR aircraft. The airline said the quieter planes feature larger overhead storage, seat back device holders and in seat charging.

Jetstar Chief Executive Stephanie Tully said the new service reflected the airline’s commitment to affordable travel.

“We’re thrilled to be launching our new nonstop service between Christchurch and Perth, giving New Zealanders an affordable and convenient way to connect with Western Australia’s incredible beaches, vibrant food scene and outdoor adventures.

“This route is also a fantastic opportunity to bring more visitors into Canterbury, supporting local tourism operators and the wider economy.

“We’ve seen strong demand for low fares travel on both sides of the Tasman, and we’re excited to offer customers even more choice as we continue to expand our trans Tasman network.”

Christchurch Airport Chief Executive Justin Watson welcomed the announcement.

“We’re stoked to see this Perth service take off. It shows what strong partnerships and a clear focus on growing international connections can deliver for the South Island.

“Our airport is all about opening doors, giving South Islanders more direct choice and bringing more visitors in to experience this incredible region. More flights mean more opportunity for Christchurch and the wider South Island to thrive.”

Perth, often described as Australia’s sunniest capital, is known for its white sand beaches, the Swan River and Kings Park, one of the world’s largest inner city parks. The city also provides easy access to Fremantle and Rottnest Island, home to the quokka.

To mark the launch, Jetstar has begun a 24 hour sale with one way fares from Christchurch to Perth starting from $299. The sale began at 12pm on 2 March 2026 and runs until 11.59am on 3 March 2026, unless sold out.

The new Christchurch service adds to Jetstar’s recent trans Tasman growth. The airline carried more than 700,000 customers across the Tasman in 2025, a 9 per cent increase on the previous year. Nearly 400,000 of those passengers paid under $200.

In 2025 Jetstar introduced new routes between Christchurch and Cairns, Hamilton and the Gold Coast, Hamilton and Sydney, and Dunedin and the Gold Coast. A seasonal Queenstown to Brisbane service is also scheduled to begin in June 2026.

Flights between Christchurch and Perth remain subject to Government and regulatory approval.
