Christchurch singer-songwriter Rebecca Robin is marking the one-year anniversary of her debut EP Stardust with a special live show at Space Academy tonight.
The performance, featuring support from Lexi Sandiford, will run from 7pm to 9.30pm and is part of New Zealand Music Month celebrations.
Since releasing Stardust last year, Rebecca has been steadily building momentum in the local music scene, with her music videos playlisted on Juice TV and showcasing some of Christchurch’s most iconic locations.
Over the past year, she’s taken part in two music incubator programmes through Toi Ōtautahi, which are now wrapping up. One saw her work closely with award-winning producer Greg Haver, whose mentorship has helped shape a new body of work, with a fresh release expected later this year.
“I’ve learned so much from Greg. His experience and musical knowledge have really helped me grow,” she said.
Rebecca also joined the Waiata Reo programme, led by Henare Kaa of Dillastrate, where she developed a bilingual song and gained insight into songwriting, the music industry, and social media growth.
“I feel really lucky to have had both of these opportunities,” she said.
In another step forward, Rebecca is a candidate in the upcoming Recorded Music NZ elections for Artist Representative Director, a role she said she’s excited about for the networking and learning opportunities it brings.
