A Christchurch dog owner has described a frightening incident where a dog entered her property and attacked her elderly pet, but it was the behaviour of the youths afterwards, captured on CCTV, that she found even more disturbing.

The incident happened around 9.45pm on January 3 near Rosewarne Street and Simeon Street in Spreydon.

The woman said an unleashed dog, which was with three youths, jumped a 1.8 metre fence, entered her section, and attacked her Shar Pei, leaving a small wound.

She said she had supplied police and the SPCA with photo and video footage taken immediately after the incident.

“The police aren’t really interested as it is an animal and SPCA can’t do anything without knowing where this dog lives,” she said.

She said she was also concerned about the way the youths treated their own dog after the attack.

In distressing CCTV footage sent to chrislynchmedia.com, one of the youths is seen kicking their dog, while another strikes it.

One of the boys asks another boy to hold the dog while he kicks the animal in the stomach.

“That poor dog is not at all to blame. They should not be walking off leash, but also just the way they treat the poor thing,” she said.

The woman told chrislynchmedia.com she had shared the video across community Facebook pages in the hope someone could help identify the youths involved, for the safety of residents and animals in the area.

The woman said her dog was recovering but had been left tired after the ordeal.

Anyone who recognises the youths or the dog, or who has CCTV or dashcam footage from the area, is encouraged to contact police or the SPCA.
