A child has been seriously injured following a crash on Leeston Road in Springston this afternoon.

Police have said they were notified of a collision involving a car and a pedestrian at about 3.30pm.

Chris Lynch Media understands the pedestrian involved was a child.

A police spokesperson said the Serious Crash Unit had been advised and Leeston Road was closed while emergency services responded and investigations were carried out.

Diversions were in place at the intersections of Goulds Road and Leeston Road, and Bethels Road and Leeston Road, the spokesperson said.

Motorists were advised to avoid the area and expect delays.
