Bus users across Christchurch are being advised to plan ahead for significant service disruptions on Friday 7 November due to a scheduled union meeting for drivers.

Environment Canterbury said several Metro routes will be affected between 9.10am and 2.30pm, with some trips ending early at the central city bus interchange as drivers attend the meeting.

Routes affected include:

1 Rangiora–Cashmere, 5 Rolleston–New Brighton, 7 Halswell–Queenspark, 27 Northwood–Huntsbury, 44 Shirley–Westmorland, 60 Hillmorton–Southshore, 80 Lincoln–Parklands, 95 Waikuku and Pegasus–City, 97 Rangiora–Pegasus, 100 Wigram–The Palms via Riccarton, 107 Styx Mill–Northlands Mall, 120 Burnside–Spreydon, 125 Redwood–Westlake, 130 Hei Hei–Avonhead, 135 New Brighton–The Palms, 820 Burnham/Lincoln via Rolleston, and the Orbiter.

A spokesperson for Environment Canterbury said the disruption was temporary and services were expected to resume as normal later in the afternoon.

“Customers should be aware some trips may end at the city bus interchange from around 9.10am as drivers prepare to attend the meeting,” the spokesperson said. “Kinetic, the operator whose drivers are involved, has worked to ensure other routes will remain unaffected, and we expect all services to be operating as usual by 2.30pm.”

School bus services will not be affected.

Under the drivers’ collective agreement, each operator’s staff are entitled to attend up to two union meetings per year.

“We apologise for any inconvenience and recommend customers plan ahead if they are travelling on public transport on this day,” the spokesperson said.
