Police are hunting those responsible for what’s been described as a “brutal attack” in front of passengers at Christchurch Airport.

An eye witness said the attack happened at the regional airport terminal just before 2pm.

“Four guys seriously assaulted an individual sitting by himself in the middle of the terminal.”

The witness said the attack was “brutal.”

A police spokeswoman said they were called to the airport following a report of a disorder incident involving a group of people.

One person received injuries and was given medical treatment at the scene.

Enquiries to locate the other parties are ongoing.
