Two dogs reported missing after a ute was stolen in Ōmakau have been found safe.

On Sunday, police appealed for information after a white Holden Colorado ute was stolen from Ōmakau the day before, with the owner’s two dogs in the back at the time.

In an update shared by the family on Monday, the dogs were picked up by a member of the public and taken to a vet for assessment.

They are said to be in good condition considering what they have been through.

The stolen ute has also been located, and police have arrested a person in relation to the incident.

The owners have thanked members of the public who reported sightings and assisted in the search, saying they are “beyond relieved” the dogs have been found.
