A 38-year-old man has been charged with injuring with intent to cause grievous bodily harm after an incident on Perth Street, Richmond this evening.

Police were called to reports of an assault just before 5pm.

The victim was transported to hospital in a serious condition and the alleged offender was located by Police nearby and arrested.

He is due to appear in the Christchurch District Court tomorrow.
