St Andrew’s College ANZAC Day Service

The ANZAC Day Service is a long-standing St Andrew’s College tradition, which is held each year in the Centennial Chapel. The College commemorates those who lost their lives in war, particularly Old Collegians and Staff who died during WWII, as well as honouring returned servicemen and women. All Old Collegians are very welcome to attend this special service on Monday 25 April, at 10.00am, with morning tea in the Strowan House dining room afterwards. This service will take place in the St Andrew’s College Centennial Chapel. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, mask wearing will be mandatory throughout the service and guests will be suitably distanced. This year will be a ticketed event as we are only able to host 200 guests. There is no cost to attend.

Christchurch Boys’ High School Anzac Day service

At Christchurch Boys’ High School we have a long tradition of coming together on this day, as a community group, to remember the men who served and died for New Zealand from the Boer War to Afghanistan and on our peace-keeping duties around the world. The Anzac Day Service will be held in the School Hall on Monday 25 April at 10.00am – all welcome. Please note Government restrictions relevant at the time will apply.

ANZAC events have been scaled back this year due to Covid-19 and there are no parades in the District. There are services taking place around the District.

Heritage Highlights: The history & culture of the Canterbury Aviation Company – Tuesday 26 April 2.30pm to 4pm

The brainchild of entrepreneur, politician and aviation visionary, Henry Francis Wigram, the Canterbury Aviation Company at Sockburn, just outside Christchurch, created a flying school which began operations in 1917 on the first proper aerodrome in New Zealand. During its life, over 150 pilots from across New Zealand were trained for service overseas, though only a few saw operational service. Relatively little in-depth original research or historical examination has been done on how the school functioned or the experiences of those who trained and worked there.

Come and listen to Simon Moody (Research Curator at the Air Force Museum, Wigram) discuss how the school operated and existed within local society during the First World War and much more!

Attendees are welcome to arrive for a cuppa and chat before the talk begins at 2.30pm.

Ages: All welcome
Cost: $FREE, Register for this free event
