Person taken to hospital following lockdown incident at Kaiapoi High School

One person has been taken to hospital following an incident at Kaiapoi High School.

The school emailed parents at about 2.15pm advising the school had been placed into lockdown.

“All students are safe,” the email said.

Senior Sergeant Hamish Keer-Keer from the Canterbury police District Command Centre told chrislynchmedia.com police responded to a report of a disorder at the school.

“The school has initiated a lockdown as per their protocols.”

Keer-Keer said one person had been taken to hospital for medical assessment.

A police spokeswoman later confirmed the person was transported to hospital by ambulance and officers had since left the scene.

Students told chrislynchmedia.com the lockdown had ended before the school day finished.

The school and Ministry of Education have been approached for additional comment.
