Fire crews have managed to contain a large blaze in North Canterbury.
A Fire and Emergency spokesperson said the fire on Hurunui Mouth Road is approx 30ha stretched along the Hurunui River.
“We have 2 helicopters on scene, 5 fire appliances and 4 smoke chaser units.”
Crews are working to create fire breaks around the fire itself and on the opposite side of the river to prevent it spreading.
The fire is contained within that area.
Residents in the Hurunui River huts were evacuated as a precaution.
Crews will continue working until nightfall and there maybe be crews in tomorrow to continue patrolling the area for hotspots.
