Police have arrested five youths following a fleeing driver incident in the early hours of this morning.

A police spokesperson said at around 3am two vehicles failed to stop for police when signalled to do so, on Racecourse Road, Sockburn.

Police did not pursue and instead maintained observations of the vehicles and deployed road spikes, which brought both vehicles to a stop.

One of the vehicles crashed against a power pole on Halswell Road near the intersection with Curletts Road.

No injuries are reported.

Five youths were taken into custody and charges are being considered.
