A man who tested positive for Covid-19 after arriving in South Korea via travelling through Singapore, ate at a McDonalds restaurant in Christchurch, but health officials say there is no cause for concern at all.

The Canterbury District Health Board confirmed he visited the McDonalds on Memorial Avenue on July 20th.

Medical Officer of Health Dr Cheryl Brunton says Canterbury District Health Board’s Community & Public Health staff contacted the store to ask them to review their CCTV footage.

She says the restaurant then provided information to the public health team.

Dr Brunton says customers who visited the store are safe.

“There were very few other customers in the store at the time the case visited and no-one in the store – staff or customer is considered a close contact.”

She says McDonalds has a regular programme of cleaning and disinfection for high touch points, such as their kiosks, in their stores and no additional measures are necessary.

A staff member told Chris Lynch they’re angry the restaurant didn’t tell staff earlier.

They claim the restaurant has known for weeks but didn’t inform staff.
