Nurse Maude has been forced to reduce its home care service hours due to a critical lack of funding.
Canterbury Mornings with Chris Lynch was inundated with calls from clients and family members unhappy about the changes.
One woman who phoned the show was getting an hour of help a week, but that’s been cut to one hour every two weeks – without notification.
Another caller said his home care services were reduced by 15 minutes an hour, placing additional stress in the carer to get the job done faster.
General Manager of Marketing at Nurse Maude Sue Bramwell told Chris Lynch all they’ve done is bring services in line with funding available for each person.
She says Nurse Maude has been “over providing” services for many years, because it was in a financial position to do so thanks to charitable donations.
But she says like every charity in New Zealand, Nurse Maude has been hit substantially, as they rely on charitable donations.
Nurse Maude receives partial funding from The Ministry of Health and District Health Board.
Last month, the Government announced an additional $3.92 billion for health boards, totalling $980 million per annum for four years.
Sue Bramwell says the organisation is waiting to see if it recieve any of this money.
