The Christchurch mother of the victims of last night’s fire in Burwood has spoken of her terrible loss.
Two of her children died in a house fire on Vivian Street.
A Fire and Emergency spokesman says crews received the first call at 10.40PM to the blaze on Vivian Street.
The mother of the victims posted on Chris Lynch’s public Facebook page “my babies, my 8 year old son died from the smoke first, and my 8 month old daughter burned to death. There’s nothing left of her.”
Residents of Vivian Street are supporting the family with food and other items.
Witnesses say the house on Vivian Street was well ablaze by the time fire crews arrived at about 10.30pm.
A neighbour says he heard screaming coming from the house as the fire got bigger.
Another neighbour says he saw fire crews carrying a lifeless body out of the house.
“It’s something I will never forget in my life. I’m heartbroken for the family.”
“Ambulance stuff were hugging and consoling each other. The whole street is in shock”
The house is cordoned off and fire investigators remain at scene.
