A person has been seriously injured after two vehicles were involved in a crash near Christchurch Airport.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand were called about the incident involving a car and truck at the intersection of Pound Rd and McLeans Island Rd at 1.45pm.

Police are at the scene and St John staff are attending to the people involved in the crash.

A Police spokesperson said McLeans Island Road is closed and traffic management is in place.

Motorists are being advised to avoid the area.
