Christchurch Christmas Parade has been cancelled.

Christchurch Children’s Christmas Parade Trust Manager Pam Morris says the two factors that determined this were  not knowing what COVID-19 crowd regulations would still be in force at Parade time and funding issues.

The Christchurch Santa Parade was started by Sir James Hay in 1947.

However, Ms Morris says not lost as the Trust and MultiMedia Communications have put together a contingency event over 10 days so the children don’t miss out on some Christmas joy and entertainment.

Ms Morris says “as we have the building, 40 plus floats, costumes, lights, music and tools we are going to create what will possibly be Santa’s biggest Grotto in New Zealand.”

“Children will be able to see all our floats together, appreciate and connect with them and their characters.”
