The authority responsible for Christchurch’s bus service says the response from the operator following an attack on a driver was well managed.
A 36-year-old man has been charged with assault, after allegedly attacking a bus driver in Linwood on Saturday night
The attack happened just after 9pm on the corner of Linwood Avenue and Hereford Street.
An eyewitness told Chris Lynch she saw the attack and called police immediately.
She says officers arrived three minutes later and managed to arrest the agitated offender.
The eyewitness says the bus driver’s head was bleeding.
A Environment Canterbury spokeswoman says the organisation has been in contact with the operator following the incident.
She says Environment Canterbury is confident the response from the operator and police was managed quickly and well.
She says this was an isolated incident.
“Our operators have systems in place to help manage and respond to incidents like this – including driver training, CCTV and radio protocols.”
