A driver has been rushed to hospital in a critical condition after crashing his car at high speed into a wall of the Mike Pero Motorsport Park.

Emergency services were called to the race track at 107 Hasketts Road in Templeton at 11.20AM.

A Fire and Emergency spokesman told Chris Lynch one person was trapped in a vehicle.

Fire crews with St John ambulance crews worked to free the driver.

Racing crew also assisting emergency services.

A St John Ambulance spokesman said the patient was transported to Christchurch Public Hospital in a critical condition.
