Police are investigating the unexplained death of a man at a Christchurch property.

Detective Senior Sergeant Dan Overend said emergency services were called to a Milton Street property at about 12.30pm on Sunday after the man was found unresponsive.

CPR was started before emergency services arrived, but the man could not be revived.

Overend said police were making enquiries on behalf of the Coroner to establish the circumstances surrounding the death.

A post mortem examination will take place in due course.

Residents can expect to see police at the property while a scene examination is carried out.

Chris Lynch Media photographer Daniel van Kessel said the police investigation appeared to be focused on a cabin at the front of the property.

Police said there was not believed to be any risk to the wider public.

Support was being provided to those affected.
