Christchurch residents will pay more to use Council pools, gyms, hydroslides and recreation facilities from 1 October, with annual memberships rising by as much as $48.

Christchurch City Council is updating fees and charges across its recreation and sport network, affecting memberships, casual entry, multi visit passes and a range of other activities.

Further increases covering court, room and pool hire, Swimsmart memberships and term based programmes will take effect from 1 January 2027.

The annual prepaid Gym and Pool membership will increase from $999 to $1046.20, a rise of $47.20.

The annual Gym membership will rise from $855 to $903.20, an increase of $48.20, while the annual Pool membership will increase from $760 to $807.90, up $47.90.

Weekly direct debit fees for Gym and Pool, Gym only and Pool only memberships will each increase by $1.

A combined Gym and Pool membership will rise from $20.95 to $21.95 a week, Gym membership from $17.95 to $18.95 and Pool membership from $15.95 to $16.95.

A child’s pool membership will increase from $8 to $8.20 a week, while the annual prepaid price will rise from $380 to $390.80.

Casual users will also pay more.

Adult pool entry will increase from $7 to $7.20, while children’s entry will rise from $4 to $4.10.

A family pool entry for five people will increase from $17.80 to $18.30.

Adult casual gym entry will rise from $19.20 to $19.80, while casual group fitness entry will increase from $12.50 to $12.90.

Hydroslide prices are also increasing. At Jellie Park and Taiora QEII, an adult slide pass will rise from $16 to $16.50 and a child’s pass from $11 to $11.30.

At Parakiore, an adult Slide Park pass will increase from $18 to $18.50 and a child’s pass from $13 to $13.40.

The Council is also introducing a new $5 casual pool entry rate for tertiary students.

The discounted rate will be available to students who present valid identification from a New Zealand tertiary education provider.

The Council said the move was designed to support continued participation in recreation and sport after students leave high school.

Existing discounts will remain for Community Services Card, SuperGold, Hāpai Access and other eligible card holders.

Most eligible users will continue to receive a 30 percent discount, while Hāpai Access card holders will continue to receive a 50 percent discount on selected casual entry products.

Swimsmart fees will increase from 1 January.

The weekly preschool, school age and mini squad fee will rise from $14.30 to $14.70.

Adult casual Swimsmart lessons will increase from $14.50 to $14.90, while individual lessons will rise from $28 to $28.80.

Community lane hire rates will remain unchanged.

A 25 metre community lane will remain $12.95 an hour and a 50 metre community lane will remain $25.90.

Indoor court hire will also become more expensive from 1 January.

An adult full sized basketball or netball court will rise from $55 to $56.70 an hour, while the child rate will increase from $41.50 to $42.70.

Community meeting room hire will also rise, with small rooms increasing from $10 to $10.30 an hour and large rooms from $15 to $15.40.

Fees at Ngā Puna Wai Sports Hub are also increasing.

Athletics facility hire will rise from $225 to $231.90 an hour, while the community rate for hockey, rugby league and community fields will increase from $93.60 to $96.50 an hour.

The Council is also lifting a range of campground and holiday park charges from October.

At Duvauchelle Holiday Park, the upper price for a powered site for two adults will increase from $59.40 to $61.20 a night.

At Spencer Beach Holiday Park, the upper price for an ensuite cabin will rise from $187.90 to $193.70 a night.

The fees are set under the Local Government Act 2002 and include GST.

The Council said the general manager has discretion to alter the timing of scheduled increases in response to market and community conditions.
