Two youths allegedly stole a distinctive pink Toyota before police brought the vehicle to a stop using road spikes less than an hour later.

Senior Sergeant Hamish Keer Keer said the Toyota Vitz was taken from Rolleston at about 9.45pm on Wednesday.

Police spotted the vehicle around 30 minutes later and deployed spikes in Yaldhurst.

The car was brought to a safe stop in Hornby, with no further damage to the vehicle and no injuries reported.

A 13 year old and 16 year old were located following the incident.

The 16 year old is due to appear in Christchurch Youth Court today facing charges including failing to stop, dangerous driving and unlawfully taking a motor vehicle.

Keer Keer said police were pleased with the quick response and resolution of the theft.
