Cafe fire in Lyttelton brought under control

Multiple Fire and Emergency crews have been called to a fire at a popular Lyttelton cafe.

Fire and Emergency southern shift manager Blair Walklin told chrislynchmedia.com crews were called to The Shroom Room, where a fire appeared to have started in the kitchen before quickly spreading.

The Shroom Room cafe, is located just on the edge of Albion square.

Walklin said by the time the first fire truck arrived, the cafe was well ablaze.

He said no one was inside at the time of the fire.

Two crews from Lyttelton, one crew from Sumner and one crew from Woolston were at the scene.

Multiple police units were also called to assist with traffic control.

Nearby residents told Chris Lynch Media the fire was under control by 8.40pm.
