Two chicken products sold at Pak’n Save Rangiora have been recalled over concerns they may contain undercooked chicken.
New Zealand Food Safety is supporting the recall of the store’s Death by Chicken burger and Chicken Katsu Garden Salad.
The products were made in store and sold at Pak’n Save Rangiora, 2 Southbrook Road, Rangiora.
Both affected products were marked “Packed On 08.06.26” and “Use By 11.06.26”.
New Zealand Food Safety deputy director general Vincent Arbuckle said the products should not be eaten.
“The concern with these 2 made-in-store products, with a Use By date of 11.06.2026, is that the chicken could be undercooked and eating it could make you sick,” Arbuckle said.
“These products should not be eaten. You can return them to Pak’n Save Rangiora for a refund. If that’s not possible, throw them out.”
The Death by Chicken burger was sold in a paper tray covered by plastic film.
The Chicken Katsu Garden Salad was sold in a clear plastic punnet.
No other Pak’n Save Rangiora made in store products were affected, and the products had not been exported.
Arbuckle said there had been no reports of illness linked to the recall.
“We have not received any notifications of associated illness, but undercooked chicken could contain Campylobacter bacteria,” Arbuckle said.
“Symptoms of campylobacteriosis include diarrhoea, fever, headache, muscle aches, abdominal pain, and vomiting. Symptoms appear within 2 to 5 days but sometimes can take up to 10 days.
“If you have consumed either of these products and are concerned about your health, contact your health professional, or call Healthline on 0800 611 116 for free advice.
“As is our usual practice, New Zealand Food Safety will work with Pak’n Save Rangiora to understand how the contamination occurred and prevent its recurrence.”
Customers were asked to check the packed on and use by dates.
Affected products can be returned to Pak’n Save Rangiora for a full refund.
