Police have released the name of the person who died in a crash on Tekapo-Twizel Road, Tekapo, on Sunday.

He was Jeffrey Alan Ross, 74, a retired pharmacist from Christchurch.

“Police extend our deepest condolences to Jeffrey’s family and friends during this difficult time,” NZ Police said in a statement.

chrislynchmedia.com earlier reported that the crash, involving a motorcycle, closed State Highway 8 near the Tekapo-Pukaki Canal Bridge around 4.30pm on Sunday.

The incident occurred near the intersection with Tekapo Canal Road in the Mackenzie District.

Enquiries into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing.
