A person has died following a serious two vehicle crash near Tekapo this afternoon.

Emergency services were called to State Highway 8, Tekapo Twizel Road, at about 4.30pm after reports of a crash involving two vehicles including a motorcycle.

Police said despite best efforts from emergency services, one person died at the scene.

“There were no other injuries.”

Police have not confirmed the identity of the person who died.

The road remains closed while the Serious Crash Unit carries out a scene examination.

Motorists have been advised to avoid the area, use alternative routes or delay travel.
