A central Christchurch restaurant is closing its doors for good, with The Diversity at ENTX announcing it will serve its last meals on 20 May.

The team behind the CBD eatery broke the news to customers in an emotional Facebook post, saying the decision had not been easy.

“It has been a very long, difficult, and emotional decision for us to make this call,” the post read.

“This decision comes with great sadness and heartbreak, as we have always believed that good, simple, and honest food deserves a place in the heart of our CBD.”

The restaurant joins a growing list of eateries to leave the complex in recent years, including Nando’s and Cleaver & Co.

The international food hall, which originally occupied the lower level of ENTX, struggled to attract sustained business and was later closed and stripped out to make way for an entertainment hub.

The owners of The Diversity said their team had “worked tirelessly and poured so much passion into every moment, every dish, and every service.”

“We have done it all with pride, happiness, and genuine love for the people and face of Christchurch.

“Sadly, despite all of this, we have not received enough support to keep the restaurant viable moving forward.”

There is, however, a glimmer of hope, with the owners signalling a new venture is already in the works.

“Although this marks the end of our journey at ENTX, it is also the beginning of something new and exciting for us,” the post said.

“We will be popping up at markets and events while we work behind the scenes on our next chapter.”

“From the bottom of our hearts, we want to thank each and every one of you for your support, kindness, and understanding during such an emotional time for us and our team.”

“Over these next few days, we would love to invite you in one last time to enjoy our food, share stories, take photos, and help us celebrate everything The Diversity has been before we say goodbye.”

Customers have been urged to follow the restaurant’s Facebook and Instagram pages for updates on what comes next.
