Police have recovered a body from the Otututu/Rough River near Ikamatua on the West Coast.

The discovery was made downstream after an overturned tractor was located in the river at around 10.45 this morning.

The body is believed to be that of the tractor’s sole occupant.

Chris Lynch Media understands the driver tried to cross the river late last night, but failed to return home as planned.

Police are asking the public to avoid the area while emergency services remain on scene, and have extended condolences to the deceased’s family.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

The death will be referred to the Coroner.
