A Christchurch dairy owner has been left more puzzled than concerned after a man in his 30s, who made no attempt to hide his identity, broke into his store early Tuesday morning and stole about $30.
The owner of Shirley Discounter on Marshland Road told Chris Lynch Media the man unscrewed the lock on the front door before entering the store at about 2am.
He said the offender reached behind the metal security bars, and took cash from the till before leaving.
The owner said, “He didn’t even try to hide his face. The footage is crystal clear.”
Police forensics were expected to attend the store on Tuesday morning, but as of 10.30am they had not arrived.
The owner said, “It just feels like a bit of a waste of time for everyone, for me, for police, and for the community.”
Despite the break in, the owner said he was relieved no damage was done to the store.
He said, “It’s frustrating and time consuming, but at least nothing much was damaged.”
The Shirley Discounter store was open as usual on Tuesday morning.
