Emirates has begun restarting flights into New Zealand, including services linked to Christchurch, after a partial reopening of regional airspace allowed commercial travel to resume on a limited basis.

The airline confirmed a Dubai to Auckland service was scheduled to depart Dubai at 10.05am local time, with the return flight from Auckland to Dubai due to leave at 21.05pm New Zealand time.

Flights connecting Dubai to Christchurch via Sydney were also scheduled to operate, with the service departing Dubai at 10.15am local time.

The restart of the flights is expected to bring some relief for travellers and businesses relying on international connections to Christchurch.

A spokesperson said “Emirates can confirm that it is currently operating a reduced flight schedule until further notice. This follows the partial re opening of regional airspace for the safe conduct of commercial flights.”

“For 5 and 6 March, over 100 flights will depart from Dubai and return. These flights will carry people eager to reach their final destinations, as well as essential cargo like perishables and pharmaceuticals.”

Christchurch relies heavily on international air links for tourism, trade, and freight, with the Emirates route providing a key connection between Canterbury and the Middle East and Europe.

The airline said it would continue restoring services gradually as conditions allow.

“Emirates will continue to gradually build back its flying schedule, subject to airspace availability and all operational requirements being met. Safety is always our top priority.”

Passengers have been warned not to travel to the airport unless they hold a confirmed booking.

“For now, customers should only proceed to the airport if they have a confirmed booking.”
