Emergency services respond to glider crash in Omarama

Emergency services have been called to a glider crash at Omarama Aerodrome this afternoon, where a person has sustained serious injuries.

A police spokesperson said emergency services were alerted to the incident at 3.20pm.

One person has sustained serious injuries, and the Civil Aviation Authority has been notified, the spokesperson said.

St John said it was notified of an incident at Airport Road, Omarama in the Waitaki District. One ambulance, one PRIME responder, and one helicopter were dispatched to the scene.

A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesperson confirmed to Chris Lynch Media that multiple crews are responding at the aerodrome.

The circumstances surrounding the crash are not yet known.
