A person has been found dead following a crash on Seadown Road in Canterbury.

Police said they received a report at 9:10am today from a member of the public who came across a crashed vehicle on Seadown Road, north of Timaru.

A police spokesperson said the vehicle had collided with a power pole and the sole occupant was located deceased at the scene.

The Serious Crash Unit has been advised and will carry out an examination.

Seadown Road is closed between Arowhenua Station Road and State Highway 1 while inquiries continue.
