Christchurch drivers can expect more delays and detours over the coming months as the city’s roadworks season steps into full swing.
Head of Transport and Waste Management Lynette Ellis said warmer weather had triggered an uptick in resurfacing and construction work across the city.
“The Council’s resurfacing season is underway, so residents will have noticed an increase in activity with many road works continuing through until the weather cools off next year,” Ellis said.
Council’s major transport and three waters projects include the Moorhouse Avenue safety improvements, One NZ stadium surrounding Streets footpath asphalting, and the Ilam and Buchanans Road wastewater renewals.
Work on Brougham Street and Halswell Road upgrades is being managed by the New Zealand Transport Agency.
Ellis asked drivers to remain patient and plan ahead.
“Please be patient, plan your route ahead of time and drive to the speed limits to keep yourself and those working on the roads safe,” she said.
