Multiple Fire and Emergency crews are responding to a large fire in Darfield.

They were called to Bleak House Road just after 10am.

Chris Lynch Media understands that when the first appliance arrived, a large shed was already well ablaze.

The fire has since spread to nearby vegetation.

A Fire and Emergency Command Unit has been called to the scene given the scale of the blaze.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand said 13 trucks from Darfield, Kirwee, Sheffield, Hororata, Dunsandle, Rolleston, Cust , Coalgate and Christchurch and one helicopter are responding.
