A motorcyclist has been seriously injured in a crash in Addington this afternoon.

Emergency services were called to the corner of Brougham and Antigua streets at about 3pm,  following a collision involving a motorcyclist and a vehicle.

A St John spokesperson said they were notified of the incident and responded with one ambulance, one rapid response vehicle, and one manager.

Two patients were assessed at the scene, with one transported to Christchurch Hospital in a serious condition.

The second patient had minor injuries and did not require hospital treatment.

A police spokeswoman said traffic management was in place while emergency services attended the scene.

NZTA said the crash was blocking a lane in both directions.

Road users are advised to expect delays and take extra care along this route.
